Indoor Bird Aviary Designs

If you are a bird owner and are considering various indoor bird aviary designs, you probably already know that birds are much better off when they have more living space. Your birds will be both happier and healthier if you give provide them with a larger cage or aviary. If your flock is growing, you may have already decided that a cage is too small. If you live in a warmer climate, you may even wish to consider an outdoor aviary.

No matter where you live or what your budget is,  you should know that an indoor aviary gives your birds more room to move around, fly and maintain their muscles. Because aviaries are so large, you can provide your birds more items to stimulate their intelligence.  Toys, perches, ropes and plants will all fit easily into your aviary. You can even buy or build walk-in aviaries that allow you to get closer to your birds.

Factors To Consider When Using Bird Aviary Designs

Aviary Design

Before you begin building your indoor aviary, you should think about making it easy to clean and maintain. Make the doors large enough to enter the aviary and handle your birds. Be sure to add smaller doors near the feeding and watering stations so you can change food and water without opening the large door. This will make accidental escapes less likely. You might also want to build in or buy some removable feeding trays to put in the aviary.

Using the designs available on the market or Amazon, you should be able to build the aviary yourself in one day, although it’s always helpful to work with at least one other person. Before you begin building, make sure you have all the tools, hardware and wood that you will need. Professional aviary designs can guide you on exactly which tools and hardware you will need for the best results.

Durability and Safety Of Materials

The type of materials and wood you use will depend on the species of birds you keep. Some species will chew on the wood and bars, while others won’t. The most important factor to consider when building your aviary is the safety of the materials. The materials you use should always be non-toxic. Consider these factors when deciding which materials you will use to build your aviary.

You should use powdered wrought iron bars. This will make it almost impossible for the birds to chew on and ingest the paid. We generally advise against using galvanized steel for the aviary wiring. Stainless steel is also a good option for the aviary bars or mesh, but it is also more expensive.

Aviary Size And Placement

Of course, you will also need to think about the size and placement of the indoor aviary. The size of your aviary will depend on how much space you have and the size of your birds. Be sure to carefully measure the space where you are planning to put your aviary. Remember, the larger your birds, the larger the aviary you will need to build.
